Designing a cozy workout area doesn't need to be complicated or cluttered. Keep it as straightforward as possible. Research indicates that clutter can lead to stress, and during workouts, minimizing extra stress is beneficial.

Here are my top 5 tips for maintaining a minimalist yet cozy workout space.

  1. Select workout attire that you find most comfortable. For some, this means leggings and a tank top, while for others, it might be well-worn workout pants paired with a shirt from a significant other.

  2. Incorporate soothing colors into your clothing, wall art, paint, pillows, yoga mat, water bottle, yoga block, curtains, rugs, blankets, etc. Different colors convey different meanings and effects on the body. Shades of blue and green are known for their calming effects. Personally, I find that colors found in nature offer a similar calming effect.

  3. Prioritize lighting in your workout area. This could involve turning off the lights, closing curtains, and lighting candles. If you prefer no scent, opt for unscented candles. Consider options like a Himalayan salt lamp, twinkling string lights, or a fireplace video. The light from a crackling fire creates an incredible ambiance.

  4. Introduce soft textures by replacing a rough yoga mat with a softer, more cushioned one. Alternatively, place a blanket over your current mat.

  5. Establish a ritual for your space to perform before or after each workout. This could include journaling, sitting quietly, meditating, enjoying a tea or another beverage, or even reading a Bible verse.

Whatever you decide to do or how you choose to do it, keep it simple. Hygge is an experience, and incorporating it into daily movement is truly wonderful.
